With the exponential growth of world population, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization , the world will need to produce 70% more food in 2050, shrinking agricultural lands, and depletion of finite natural resources, the need to enhance farm yield has become critical.
IoT solutions are focused on helping farmers close the supply demand gap , by ensuring high yields, profitability, and protection of the environment. The approach of using IoT technology to ensure optimum application of resources to achieve high crop yields and reduce operational costs is called precision agriculture. IoT in agriculture technologies comprise specialized equipment, wireless connectivity, software and IT services. IoT smart farming solutions is a system that is built for monitoring the crop field with the help of sensors (light, humidity, temperature, soil moisture, crop health, etc.) and automating the irrigation system. The farmers can monitor the field conditions from anywhere.

Agriculture field plays very important role in our day to day life. Without having food we can’t live. But, from where we can get food to eat? Ofcourse we get it from our mother Land. Which are grown by farmers and harvest he crops and sold in market.

Now in today’s life Internet has gone in vital form. It is use in every small fields so that’s make our lives better. But now it is use in agriculture also and also it is in very high demand.

As a result of the declining agricultural workforce, adoption of internet connectivity solutions in farming practices has been triggered, to reduce the need for manual labor.

IoT solutions are focused on helping farmers close the supply demand gap, by ensuring high yields, profitability, and protection of the environment. The approach of using IoT technology to ensure optimum application of resources to achieve high crop yields and reduce operational costs is called precision agriculture. IoT in agriculture technologies comprise specialized equipment, wireless connectivity, software and IT services.

BI Intelligence survey expects that the adoption of IoT devices in the agriculture industry will reach 75 million in 2020, growing 20% annually. At the same time, the global smart agriculture market size is expected to triple by 2025, reaching $15.3 billion (compared to being slightly over $5 billion back in 2016).

Smart farming based on IoT technologies enables growers and farmers to reduce waste and enhance productivity ranging from the quantity of fertilizer utilized to the number of journeys the farm vehicles have made, and enabling efficient utilization of resources such as water, electricity, etc. IoT smart farming solutions is a system that is built for monitoring the crop field with the help of sensors (light, humidity, temperature, soil moisture, crop health, etc.) and automating the irrigation system. The farmers can monitor the field conditions from anywhere. They can also select between manual and automated options for taking necessary actions based on this data. For example, if the soil moisture level decreases, the farmer can deploy sensors to start the irrigation. Smart farming is highly efficient when compared with the conventional approach.

Thank you @ssrajebhosale9637

I read it and made a agricultarul software using bolt where the bolt device will make the robot i made water and take care of the plants through my phone. I was also able to see what climate it was through my phone. My farm was in my grandfather’s house which is in Chicago. I live in san francisco and when i went to chicago in summer holidays i connected the device to my bolt cloud and my own digital ocean cloud and now my grandfather is very happy.

IoT in agriculture is designed to help farmers monitor vital information like humidity , air temperature and soil quality using remote sensors, to improve yields, and plan more efficient irrigation.
also may use in different formats in field work like fertility type to use in right time and other works.

IoT has several benefits in agriculture field.
Example:(1) IoT devices can monitor various aspects of farming, such as crop health, water management, and livestock conditions, providing farmers with real-time data to make informed decisions.
(2) Sensors can detect early signs of infections, infestations, or insect damage, allowing farmers to take timely measures to prevent spread and loss.

You can use soil moisture sensors , light sensors for any activity detected in the fields which helps you to monitor all the activities .

In Agriculture irrigation is the most important part. Irrigating a field too much lead to the damage to the plants also too much dryness also lead to the damage of the field or the soil. So, by using IOT we can monitor the irrigation and can be control it when water holding by the soil is too high then required.
Hopes it helps you.

IoT technology revolutionizes agriculture by enabling precision farming, smart irrigation, and real-time crop monitoring. Soil and weather sensors optimize irrigation and fertilization, while livestock wearables track health and activity. Drones and satellite imagery provide data on crop health, guiding management decisions. IoT-enabled machinery increases efficiency, and supply chain monitoring ensures product quality. Data analytics and farm management software facilitate informed decision-making and streamlined operations. Environmental monitoring and pest control systems enhance sustainability. Overall, IoT enhances productivity, reduces costs, and promotes sustainable farming practices.

Hi @ oliverthomas2314

IoT technology enhances agriculture by optimizing irrigation and fertilization through precision soil and weather monitoring, automating water usage, and conserving resources. It improves livestock and crop management with health and growth sensors, detects pests and diseases early, and ensures optimal storage conditions in the supply chain. IoT-enabled machinery and data analytics increase efficiency, while sustainable resource use reduces waste and the carbon footprint of farming operations.

IoT can help forecast the climate and temperature (taught in course where we can plot and forecast upcoming data from the collected dataset). I would like to also tell you to try mini projects for a small plant to test the bolt wifi module. Being from agriculture background knowing the soil moisture is very important to choose the crop to plant. Also IoT can support in collection of ground water level data ,if we have put them at nearby wells for moisture testing. All these are basic applications. Advance applications like insect protection using AI , my connecting IoT and satellite systems like twilio can be useful

IoT (Internet of Things) technology has been making significant contributions to the agriculture field, helping to create “smart farming” systems that improve efficiency, productivity, and sustainability. Here’s a concise overview of how IoT supports agriculture:

  1. Precision agriculture: IoT sensors collect data on soil moisture, temperature, and nutrient levels, allowing farmers to optimize irrigation and fertilization.
  2. Weather monitoring: IoT devices provide real-time weather data, helping farmers make informed decisions about planting, harvesting, and crop protection.
  3. Livestock management: IoT-enabled collars and tags monitor animal health, location, and behavior, improving herd management and early disease detection.
  4. Crop monitoring: Drones and ground sensors can detect pest infestations, diseases, or nutrient deficiencies early, enabling targeted interventions.
  5. Smart greenhouses: IoT systems automate climate control, irrigation, and lighting in greenhouses, optimizing growing conditions.
  6. Equipment monitoring: IoT sensors on farm machinery track performance and maintenance needs, reducing downtime and improving efficiency.
  7. Supply chain management: IoT technology enhances traceability and quality control throughout the agricultural supply chain.
  8. Water management: Smart irrigation systems use IoT sensors to optimize water usage based on crop needs and environmental conditions.

These applications help farmers increase yields, reduce resource waste, and make more informed decisions.
