OpenAI API key not working

The OpenAI API key is not working. It gives an error that ‘You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details.’. I tried using a new email and phone number to create another account and it is still not working. How do I solve this error?

Hi @rizamohdtp,

We are looking into this issue. It would be really helpful if you could attach a screenshot of the Open AI page.
go to platfrom.openai.com ---- go to API ---- click on personal ---- go to view API Keys ---- on the left hand side, click on Usage.
After clicking on Usage, send me the screenshot of the whole window.

This is the new account I created a few days back. It showed the same since then.

@rizamohdtp,

Regarding the API issue, many users may encounter an error if they do not have sufficient credits to access the OpenAI API keys.
If you are facing this problem, it is crucial to verify the usage of your API key, particularly if it has a balance of $0 or if it has expired.
In such cases, it is recommended to create a new account using a different phone number and a different email ID.
By doing so, you will receive $5 worth of credits, which will remain valid for three months.
Before beginning the course, please ensure to check your credits to avoid any interruptions.

Even I’m facing the same problem can u pls let me know what to do and how to use other number and email

Note that you will have to create a new account using a different phone number and email ID, you will not be receiving any credits if you use a different mail ID but the same phone number.
Both of them should be different

After creating the new account
Click on the account icon on the top right corner ---- click on personal ---- on the left-hand side, click on Billing
After clicking on Billing, in the Billing Overview Window, you can see credits worth $5 in your account.

well I think you have exceeded the time limit of 6 months that happened to me. Create a new account and don’t give the same mobile number. hope this helps

If users encounter an error due to insufficient credits for accessing OpenAI API keys, it is essential to examine the key’s usage, especially if the balance is $0 or if it has expired. To address this issue, it is advisable to create a new account with a different phone number and email ID, which will grant $5 worth of credits valid for three months. The other option is to purchase the credits which plans are mentioned in the billing and plans tab of openai settings

If you’re encountering an error stating that you exceeded your quota and you’ve already checked your plan and billing details, there are a few steps you can take to resolve this issue:

  1. Check Usage and Quotas: Review your usage and quotas on the OpenAI platform. You can check your usage details, including the number of requests made and remaining quota, in the OpenAI dashboard. Ensure that your usage aligns with the plan you have subscribed to.
  2. Upgrade Your Plan: If you have exceeded the limits of your current plan, you may need to consider upgrading to a higher tier or adjusting your plan to accommodate your usage needs.
  3. Contact OpenAI Support: If you’ve confirmed that your plan is sufficient for your needs, and the issue persists, it’s recommended to contact OpenAI support for assistance. They can provide insights into the specific nature of the issue and help you resolve it.
  4. Ensure Correct API Key: Double-check that you are using the correct API key in your application. Make sure that the API key corresponds to the account and plan you are using.
  5. Billing Information: Verify that your billing information, including payment details, is up-to-date and accurate. An issue with billing information could result in service interruptions.
  6. Check for Errors in Your Implementation: Ensure that your application is making API requests correctly and handling responses appropriately. If there are errors in your implementation, it could contribute to unexpected behavior.
  7. Consider Rate Limiting: Be aware of the rate limits associated with your plan. If you are making requests too frequently, you may reach rate limits, resulting in temporary service restrictions.

If the issue persists after trying these steps, reaching out to OpenAI support should be your next course of action. They can provide personalized assistance and address specific concerns related to your account and usage.
