well, you could add additional resistors in between to reduce the load on transistor.

Use voltage division using a register in series with the transistor for the circuit you have prepared. Addition of the resistor(Maybe 10 Ohm) will reduce the current flowing through the transistor or the voltage across the transistor and will help you to work on the project more efficiently.
