Your debit/credit card is not charged until the free trial ends or all your credits get expired, whichever happens first. Currently, digital ocean provides $100 credits that are valid for 60 days which is more than enough for learning purposes. You may destroy all your droplets within 60 days to make sure your card is not charged and even delete your card on file.
In case you don’t want to store your card on file with digital ocean, you may create a Linux virtual machine on your windows/mac computer using a software like VMWare or Virtual Box. Do check out this and the next lecture of the training.
In case you are on an Apple Silicon Mac (M1, M1 Pro, etc), you may have to use something like Parallels to create your VM.
